¿What is G.E.N.O.M.A.?

G.E.N.O.M.A is a collection of limited edition virtual cards (NFT's) in which all the elements are related to each other. These elements have been generated by a genetic algorithm and have been represented in the form of a collectible card.

Each individual is composed of a set of 23 characteristics that make it unique in the population. All properties are likely to be inherited from predecessors, be transmitted to descendants, or mutate, by their very genetic nature. If you want to know more, keep reading!

Characteristics of a card

All cards in G.E.N.O.M.A. have the same structure. However, the properties of each card vary based on the unique properties of the individual generated by the genetic algorithm they represent. The properties of the individuals in the G.E.N.O.M.A. population are listed below.

Genre

The individuals of G.E.N.O.M.A. can have two genders, so the population is binary. Gender A is represented by a circular icon in blue and pink with the detail of an arrow, while gender B is represented by a circular icon in red with the detail of a cross. All individuals from generations 2 onwards have a father of gender A and a mother of gender B. Individuals from generation 1 have no parents. Only Darwin knows how they came about.

Unique Identifier or UUID

Each individual in the collection is unique. There is no other similar individual. And since it is unique, it has an identifier that is also unique. The identifier of a G.E.N.O.M.A. item is based on the RFC4122 standard, whose technical specification can be read here: https://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc4122.txt

Properties

A part of the characteristics of an individual from G.E.N.O.M.A. is composed of some attributes that we call "main genome". These attributes take a value that ranges from 0 to 100, with 0 being the worst value and 100 being the best. The properties and their meaning are:

  • Size: The space understood as the physical volume occupied by the individual. It is measured in Genomic Volume Units.

  • Strength: Physical ability to perform work or movement. It is measured in Newtons.

  • Intelligence: Allows you to learn, understand, reason, make decisions and form ideas. It is measured in Temple Points.

  • Beauty: Property that makes the individual loved, instilling spiritual delight in those who observe him. It is measured in Guapoids.

  • Mana: This energy is the concept equivalent to the usual magic points and is used to be able to invoke spells or conjurations. It is measured in Mana Points.

  • Sanity: It refers to the mental state of the individual understood as his ability to behave prudently and sensibly, that is, as opposed to madness. It is measured in Hertz.

  • Sight: Allows the individual to perceive the physical objects that surround him in the world. It is measured in diopters.

  • Hearing: Evaluates the psychophysiological processes that provide the individual with the ability to hear. It is measured in decibels.

  • Smell: It is the individual's ability to perceive odors through organs that react chemically to the presence of olfactory stimulants in the environment. It is measured in odor units per cubic meter (ou/m3).

  • Stealth: Determines the propensity of the individual to be detected in the presence of others. It is measured in silent units.

  • Jump: Ability to modify the coordinates of the individual on the Y axis voluntarily through the use of their upper limbs. Depending on the metaverse you live in, this property may be more or less relevant. It is measured in pixels.

  • Climbing: Ability to modify the coordinates of the individual on the Y axis voluntarily through the use of their lower limbs. Depending on the metaverse you live in, this property may be more or less relevant. It is measured in pixels.

  • Swimming: Measures the efficiency for the displacement of the individual in liquids. Its unit of measurement is the Faradays of water, or water capacity.

  • Lie: Refers to the individual's potential to pretend, deceive, pretend, persuade or cause certain situations. It is measured in dark candles.

  • Diplomacy: This property determines the facility that the individual has to watch over his own interests and those of the population in general, as well as the relationships between other individuals. It is measured in Sieverts, also known as media radiation units.

  • Agility: Ability to use their abilities derived from the properties of the individual in coordination with their body and sensory functions. It is measured in radians per second squared.

Types

There are several types of individual, but an individual from G.E.N.O.M.A. always belongs to one type. Depending on the individual's type, their card will have a special frame, as well as a type-specific icon in the lower right corner.

Own color

Each individual of G.E.N.O.M.A. incorporates three special attributes that, combined with each other, form a color of its own. This color is used to fill the separating bars of the chart, as well as used to draw the bars that graphically represent each attribute. The three properties are called rColor, gColor and bColor, and can take a value between 0 and 255. Each one of the values represents the amount of color that it will have in the Red, Green and Blue channels, and their combination will give as result a color in the RGB system. RGB is additive color model widely used in electronics.

"Shiny" property

There is a very strange property in the individual generation algorithm that allows an individual in the population, whatever its characteristics, to have this property enabled. It is a property that takes a value between 0 and 1000000. The G.E.N.O.M.A. considers that the "Shiny" property is activated whenever the value taken is greater than 990000.

Some scientists are against this theory, preferring to consider "Shiny" individuals as those who have an absolute value of one million. These individuals are known as "pure Shiny", but in G.E.N.O.M.A. This has not been the case to date and it is only considered as a theoretical scientific model. This information is only verifiable with the birth records of each individual, where the exact value is seen.

Parents and Generation

The bottom of the card contains the UUID of the parents for all cards that are generation 2 or higher. In addition, it shows the generation to which the card belongs. Logically, the generation 1 cards do not have parent information, since they were generated by the G.E.N.O.M.A. algorithm during its initial phase.

Score

At the top right of each card there is a calculated value that indicates how "good" the individual is. This value is used to compare individuals within the same generation and determines their ranking when becoming a candidate for reproduction, so that its genetics could become part of the next generation of G.E.N.O.M.A.

If an average of this value, called "Score", were calculated for all the individuals of the same generation, it would be observed that, as a general rule, it would improve over time and as new generations are created. Therefore, having a specimen with a high "Score" in the initial generations makes it a rare element. The same would happen with individuals whose "Score" is very low if they belong to very advanced generations.

The average "Score" of a generation reaches a point where, after N generations, it is very difficult for it to improve substantially. This limit is known as the "mean population limit", and it determines whether a collection of G.E.N.O.M.A. would (or would not) achieve supremacy among other civilizations. This data is reserved, it can only be calculated at the time of generation of the entire G.E.N.O.M.A. and it is never published, with the aim that it is not known which civilization is better than another, and all have the same opportunities to achieve supremacy, when the time comes.

The "Score" is calculated following a mathematical formula that is kept secret by decision of G.E.N.O.M.A.

Rarity

In the lower right part of the inside of the cards there is an icon that determines the "rarity" of the individual within the usual parameters of the G.E.N.O.M.A algorithm, which determines if we are dealing with a common or extremely peculiar individual. In any case, the rarity indicator always takes one of these four values:

It is important tohighlight that this value is independent of the "Shiny" property, so we could very well have an individual of a "Common" nature that has the "Shiny" property enabled.

The way to calculate the rarity of a card is kept secret so as not to compromise a critical part of the G.E.N.O.M.A code.

Programming language

Node.js has been used to write the algorithm, so the programming language is Javascript. As IDE, Visual Studio Code has been used, and the following libraries are implemented:

  • canvas: For the generation of png files that represent each individual.

  • express: So that the algorithm is executed in response to a local web request, and so that the system is ready to become an API in the future, if necessary.

  • fs: For reading and writing files on the file system.

  • json2xml: For the generation of the excel sheet with the details of the entire card collection.

  • uuid: For the generation of unique identifiers of the cards.

Description of the G.E.N.O.M.A. algorithm

Initial generation

The first step of the algorithm consists in the creation of the "first" generation of individuals, through completely random calculations and mechanisms.

Reproduction and mutation

The first generation of individuals from G.E.N.O.M.A. it is created randomly, but the rest of the generations depend on the immediately previous one. The fact of creating a new generation of individuals is called "reproduction function". The playback function consists of several phases:

  • Pairing Phase: During this phase, the best individuals of the generation are chosen and paired based on their gender. In this way, the best individuals of each gender are the ones who will have the opportunity to mate with the best individuals of the opposite gender. in the event that there are more individuals of one gender than another, the worst individuals of that gender will not have the opportunity to reproduce, and their genetics will not continue in the following generations. We will say in this case that "the individual did not find a partner to be able to reproduce".

  • Decision phase: During this phase, each couple freely decides how many children they want to have. Several scenarios can occur:

    • If the couple decides not to have children, their genetics will not be passed on to the next generation. We will say in this case that "the individual did not prosper in its opportunity to reproduce"

    • If the couple decides to have less than two children, they will collaborate in the decline of the number of individuals that make up the population in the next generation, complicating the continuity of the species.

    • If they decide to have two children, they ensure that the number of individuals in the next generation is at least the same number of individuals that had the option to reproduce. Their genetics will be sufficiently passed on to the next generation, improving the species.

    • If they have 3 or more children, they will collaborate in increasing the number of individuals that make up the population in the next generation, making the continuity of the species more feasible. In addition, its genetics will be more likely to be propagated in subsequent generations, improving the species.

  • Procreation phase: During this phase, the couple's children are generated, following the following logic:

    • Non-inheritable properties: The attributes of own color, gender, size, beauty, and the "Shiny" property, will be generated randomly. That is, these properties are inherent to the individual itself and do not depend on the genetics of its predecessors. This makes it possible for very beautiful individuals to be born to ungrateful parents, or for very large individuals to be children of small parents.

    • Heritable properties: The rest of the attributes are based on the factor determined by the GENOME algorithm, which consists in that in 20% of the cases, the attribute is inherited from the father and in another 20% of the cases it will be inherited from the mother. . The rest of the cases will be considered a mutation. A mutation indicates that the property has not been inherited from either the father or the mother, so it will have been generated essentially as it was in the first generation of G.E.N.O.M.A. In this way, if a couple has several children, their genetics will have a good chance of being passed on and, therefore, improving the species. In addition, we can say that the children will have a certain resemblance to their father and mother in some aspects, but in others they will be totally genuine.

Properties calculation

There are properties that are calculated once the individuals have been completely generated. As an example we have the average score or "Score", which depends on all the previous ones having been created in order to be able to calculate it. Likewise, rarity would be a property of each individual that requires all of the above to be known.

Pictures generation

Once an individual has been generated, we proceed to the generation of its representation in the form of an image. In the section "characteristics of a letter" the different pieces that make up each one are detailed.

Names generation

Each individual acquires a randomly generated name by integrating with the third party API provided by https://randomuser.me/. The only parameter that is sent to the API is the gender of the individual, in order to obtain a suitable name.

JSON Document generation

The G.E.N.O.M.A. algorithm generates a file in JSON format with the complete information of the collection, including all the properties, attributes and relationships of all the individuals in the collection. It is a perfect document for validating whether or not a letter is original, as well as allowing the information to be uploaded again in the algorithm as input for expanding the collection in the future with additional generations. This document is kept secret so that only the creators of G.E.N.O.M.A. can use it.

Cardlist excelsheet generation

The last step of the algorithm is to generate an Excel document where all the data that has been generated is collected. That is, all the properties, attributes and relationships of all the individuals in the G.E.N.O.M.A. This document is the digital certificate of originality of the collection, since it is the only valid document that will allow determining whether or not a letter is original, if it is necessary to verify it. Keep it.

A non-fungible token or NFT is a special type of cryptographic token that represents something unique. This means that they are not mutually interchangeable. Although they have similar properties to cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, they are fungible by nature. The cards in G.E.N.O.M.A. are unique because of how they have been created, while at the same time they are all related to each other, since they are part of an initial generation or have been created from the original individuals. Each individual generated by the G.E.N.O.M.A. is a unique item, and thanks to turning this item into an NFT, you can also guarantee that there will be no imitations or scams if you decide to own one of them. In fact, the card list itself that contains the information of the entire collection is also an NFT in itself, in such a way that there will only be one list, original and unfalsifiable.
